I had the opportunity to improve our candidate users' experience. With user feedbacks and site usage coming in from our marketing & user research team, our product squad embarked on a project to improve our job search functionality by integrating predictive search capabilities. This new feature enables our users to easily find the most relevant job opportunities, saving them time and effort while improving the overall search experience.
With the old experience, the user will key in the search keywords in the search bar. The search bar will then separate each of the keywords through the space character. Once submitted, the user will then get redirected to the search result page, presenting relevant results against the inputted keywords. This became problematic when the user keys in malformed search keywords.
During our tests, we noticed that while suggestions sometimes slowed users down when typing or selecting suggested search terms, this was not our primary objective. Rather, we found that investing a few additional seconds in constructing a precise and comprehensive search query, aided by the Omnisearch, can save users a significant amount of time that would otherwise have been wasted sifting through irrelevant search results.
Predictive search has proven to be a valuable tool in enhancing users' search experiences. Our observations have shown that it not only accelerates the search process but also assists users in crafting more refined search queries. In essence, the benefits of predictive search extend beyond mere speed, encompassing the guidance it provides to users in constructing their queries.
